ABOUT TERRAPRINTER ONE PERSON

One mapmaker.One planet.

TerraPrinter is designed, coded, tested, run and answered by one person. No team and no ads, just a developer who has spent most of his working life with maps.

01

A life in maps

I'm Jordan, and maps have been my day job for most of the last thirty years. I spent twelve of them as a CTO on mapping and data platforms used by NASA, Google, the World Bank and the United Nations.

Elevation models, map tiles, OpenStreetMap, satellite imagery, servers that can't go down. TerraPrinter is what happens when you point all of that at a 3D printer.

Decades of putting the planet on screens. TerraPrinter puts it on your desk.

TerraPrinter launched in March 2025 to do one thing well: turn real elevation data into a solid you can slice and print. Then people asked for more. Buildings. Water. Roads. Multi-colour. Bigger prints. Other planets. It has grown one request at a time ever since.

02

Away from the keyboard

The best job I have is being a dad to my three-year-old boy. I love it more than anything I've ever built.

When I'm not at a screen, I'm behind a camera or at the workbench. I love macro and extreme macro photography, where the tiniest things turn into whole landscapes, and woodworking, where an idea becomes something you can hold.

Maps, macro photography and woodworking. TerraPrinter brings all of my work together in one place.

For years these lived in separate corners of my life. TerraPrinter is the platform where they finally meet: the mapping, the eye for detail from the camera, and the feel for real, finished objects from the workshop.

03

What “one developer” means

Every part of TerraPrinter goes through the same pair of hands:

The app

The map, the model builder, the 3D preview and every export, from STL and 3MF to Minecraft worlds.

The servers

The planet-sized OpenStreetMap database and the map server behind the live map, run in-house.

The data

Elevation, LiDAR, sea floor, buildings, airports, trees and the hand-modelled landmarks.

The makers

Globes, lithophanes, puzzles, wall maps, star maps and every other gift maker.

Your messages

Every suggestion and support ticket lands with me, and a lot of them become features.

The late nights

The changelog will give you an idea.

Being small means TerraPrinter can move fast: there's no committee between your idea and the code.

04

Imitation, flattery, and all that

Since TerraPrinter launched, a lot of other map-to-print tools have appeared, and some have added features that will look very familiar if you've used this site for a while.

Honestly? I'm flattered.

It means the ideas were good ones, and more tools means more people discovering that you can print the place you love. That's a win for everyone who owns a 3D printer. I'll keep doing what I've done since March 2025: listen, build what you ask for, and keep it free for personal use.

05

What's next is up to you

The roadmap is the suggestions box. Tell me what you'd print if you could, and I'll see what I can do.
