Everything you make with TerraPrinter is yours to use, for yourself or for business. Sell the prints, sell the files, put them in your products. No fee, no royalty, no sign-up. Just credit terraprinter.com and keep the data credits.

The two things to do when you sell or share a model:

  1. Credit TerraPrinter: Made with TerraPrinter (terraprinter.com). Keeping the engraved terraprinter.com on the print counts too.
  2. Keep the credit for the data it was made from (listed below).

Put them in the product listing, the file description, on the packaging or on a small card with the print. Most downloads already carry both in their file details (3MF metadata, SVG description, STL header).

It covers every tool on the site

The 3D map app, globes and planets, lithophanes and Moon lamps, landmarks, puzzles and large projects, the map art studio (posters, plaques and laser files) and every tool under /gifts/. Landmark models are included: print them, sell them and sell files that contain them.

Credits to keep

Add the line for what you made after Made with TerraPrinter (terraprinter.com). If you made several kinds, list each source once.

Where the elevation comes from Mapzen Terrain Tiles, the data inside them comes from many national sources. In a long description, such as a product page, add: Mapzen Terrain Tiles include SRTM, GMTED2010 and 3DEP (U.S. Geological Survey), ETOPO1 (NOAA), EU-DEM (Copernicus), and national elevation data from Australia, Austria, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom. The full list is in the Mapzen terrain attribution.

Lettering on art posters, plaques and gifts is made from fonts under the SIL Open Font License, which allows it in products you sell.

Questions

Can I sell prints of my TerraPrinter models?

Yes. Sell them online, at markets, in a shop or to clients, at any price, with no fee or royalty to us. Credit terraprinter.com and keep the data credits in the listing, on the packaging or on a small card. Leaving the engraved terraprinter.com on the print also counts as the TerraPrinter credit.

Can I sell the STL, 3MF or SVG files themselves?

Yes. You can sell, give away or bundle the files you make, including models with landmarks in them. Put "Made with TerraPrinter (terraprinter.com)" and the data credits in the listing or description. Most downloads already carry both in their file details.

Do I have to credit TerraPrinter?

Yes, when you sell or share what you make: a short "Made with TerraPrinter (terraprinter.com)" in the listing, description, packaging or on a card is enough. If you keep the small engraved terraprinter.com under the model, that counts too. Things you make only for yourself need no credit.

Can a business use it?

Yes. Shops, print farms, estate agents, schools, museums, event organisers and designers can all use TerraPrinter models in products, gifts, displays and client work for free.

Do I need to ask permission or sign up?

No. The license applies to everyone automatically. No account, form or email needed.

What about names and logos?

This license covers what TerraPrinter adds. It does not give you rights to other people's trademarks, such as a race's logo, a team crest or a brand name. Get permission for those where your country requires it.

Are landmarks and famous buildings always free to sell?

Not always. TerraPrinter's license covers our landmark models, but some landmarks and buildings are protected by their owners as trademarks or designs. For example, the Empire State Building's shape is a registered trademark, and the Eiffel Tower's night lighting is protected by copyright. Some modern buildings are protected in some countries too. Before you sell products featuring a landmark, check whether its owner protects it where you sell. That's your responsibility as the seller.

Can I copy another company's product style?

No. Other makers of 3D maps and models may hold registered designs or copyright in the look of their products. Making a 3D map with TerraPrinter is fine, but copying the specific shape, base, frame or presentation of someone else's product can infringe their rights. Make your own design.
